Dr. Mathias graduated from the prestigious St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India in 1985. After gaining experience in the various fields of general surgery in the UK, he passed the fellowship examinations of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1992. He obtained expertise in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) early and has since accumulated extensive experience in all aspects of Laparoscopic surgery and Upper and Lower Interventional GI Endoscopy.
Over the next 5 years he concentrated on and achieved super specialization in HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary). After being trained at the world renowned King’s College Hospital London, he worked as the sole senior surgical resident at the Liver Unit of the National Liver Transplant program at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Over the last 11 years he has been working as General Surgeon and Head of the Department of Surgery at Welcare Hospital Dubai, including a stint of 8 months as acting Medical Director of Welcare Hospital. He has treated large numbers of patients in the UAE and many surrounding countries in Abdominal GI and HPB diseases via open/Laparoscopic and Endoscopic procedures. He has also treated patients in other areas of general surgery including Thyroid/neck, Breast diseases (Benign and Malignant). Hernias, Varicose veins and Perianal problems including Hemorrhoids, Fissures, Fistulas and Abscesses.
Dr. Mathias is a member of the International Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Association. He is the current President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (Middle East Chapter) ISGME and has presented and published many papers in these fields.
