Dr Manjunatha Ganiga Srinivasaiah Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dubai London Hospital Q: How can one maintain a good tone in quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes for healthy extreme limbs until the ripe old age of 80. What are the tips? The main cause of muscle weakness is age-related sarcopenia or muscle loss. Physically inactive people can lose as much as 3-5 percent of their muscle mass each decade after age 30. Even if you are active, you’ll still have some muscle loss. The strongest way to fight sarcopenia is to keep your muscles active through a combination of aerobic exercises, resistance training, and balance training that can prevent and even reverse muscle loss. At least 2 – 4 exercise sessions weekly may be required to achieve these benefits. |
